If you’ve been in the firearms industry for more than ten minutes, you’ve probably felt the sting of Facebook or Instagram slapping your business with a restriction, removing a post, or—worst of all—banning your entire account.
For years, the social media giants treated the gun industry like a problem instead of a professional, regulated community. Pages got deleted without warning. Ads were shut down. Entire businesses lost their main source of traffic overnight.
But here’s the good news:
The game has changed.
And if you understand how it has changed—and what Facebook actually requires of you—you’ll stop getting banned and start using their platforms the way they were meant to be used.
Let’s break this down simply, clearly, and in a way you can act on immediately.
Facebook DOES Allow Licensed Firearm Businesses
Most gun stores have been operating under old information—rules from years ago, when Facebook’s default stance was “guns = no.”
But as of 2025, things are different.
Here’s what the policy actually says:
Licensed firearm dealers, gun shops, and ranges ARE allowed to post, promote, and sell firearms on Facebook and Instagram as long as you comply with all federal, state, and local laws.
This isn’t a rumor. This isn’t wishful thinking. It’s in Facebook’s own Commerce Policy.
Why the shift?
Because:
In 2024, Mark Zuckerberg publicly admitted on Joe Rogan’s podcast that Facebook got censorship wrong.
In January 2025, Facebook quietly hired a full-time liaison from within the firearms industry to bridge communication with FFLs.
In March 2025, Facebook rolled out revised, relaxed policies for firearm businesses.
Facebook realized what we knew all along:
You can’t build a platform for “community” if you silence an entire community.
Then Why Are Posts STILL Getting Removed?
Here’s the part most FFLs miss—and it’s why Facebook sometimes thinks you’re an unlicensed private seller and hits you with a restriction.
You must prove two things to Facebook:
You are a licensed dealer
You are selling firearms legally and transparently
If Facebook can’t see those two things from your page metadata and occasional content, their system assumes you’re a private individual—and that’s the category they punish.
And I see the same mistake over and over again…
The #1 Reason FFLs Get Banned: Wrong Page Category
A client of mine—a shooting range—kept getting his posts removed. He swore he was following the rules. And he was.
But when I checked…
His About Page category only said “Gun Range.”
He was selling guns in his posts. But Facebook had no idea he was licensed to do so. A “gun range” posting firearms for sale looks suspicious to the system.
Here’s what Facebook needs:
You must list EVERY relevant category:
Gun Store
Firearm Sales
Shooting Range
Firearm Training
Sporting Goods Store
FFL Dealer
If it fits your business, add it.
This is not 2018 anymore.
You don’t have to hide.
You don’t need to call your gun school an “education company” just to stay under the radar.
You can (and should) list exactly what you do.
The #2 Reason FFLs Get Banned: Facebook Doesn’t See Your License
Facebook isn’t expecting you to upload your FFL—but the algorithm does look for evidence inside your content.
If you never mention that you’re licensed…
If you never state that you follow ATF regulations…
If you never clarify that all transfers follow the law…
Facebook may suspect you’re acting like a private seller.
Solution: Once in a while, add a simple line to your posts:
“We are a licensed FFL operating in full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.”
“All firearm purchases require background checks and follow the legal transfer process.”
This one sentence clears 80% of false flags.
You don’t have to post it every day.
Just sprinkle it in with your promotional posts.
The 3-Step Formula to Stop Getting Banned
Let’s simplify this H30K™ style—concept → example → action.
STEP 1 — Categorize Your Business Correctly
WHAT TO DO
EXAMPLE
A gun store with a range should select:
Gun Store
Shooting Range
Firearms Training
Sporting Goods Store
Firearm Sales
FFL Dealer
ACTION STEP
Go to your Facebook Page → Settings → Page Info → Category → Add All Relevant Categories.
This tells Facebook: “We are not random people selling guns—we are a licensed, regulated business.”
STEP 2 — Occasionally Remind Facebook You’re Licensed
WHAT TO DO
Every few posts, restate your compliance.
EXAMPLE POST LINE
“We are a licensed FFL. All firearm sales follow federal and state laws, including required background checks.”
ACTION STEP
Add this sentence to the next post that features a firearm.
It signals to the algorithm that you are legal, professional, and trustworthy.
STEP 3 — Post With Confidence (Not Fear)
We’re not hiding anymore.
We’re not tiptoeing around the word “gun.”
We’re not calling ammo “pew pellets” like it’s 2016.
Facebook now expects you to be clear about who you are.
If you act like you’re doing something wrong, Facebook assumes you are.
ACTION STEP
Post like a legitimate business. Because you are.
What If You Still Get Banned?
It happens.
Facebook is better—but not perfect.
There is a proper appeal process, and in most cases, bans are reversible if you’re legitimately licensed.
If you get banned, message me. I’ll walk you through the recovery steps.
Final Thoughts: Facebook Isn’t the Enemy Anymore
We are entering a new era.
For the first time in a decade, Facebook isn’t treating the firearms industry like an underground operation. They’ve opened the door—and it’s our job to walk through it with professionalism, clarity, and confidence.
Here’s the bottom line:
You ARE allowed to sell firearms on Facebook.
You MUST categorize your page correctly.
You SHOULD occasionally remind Facebook you’re licensed.
Do these three things, and your risk of being banned drops to nearly zero.
NEXT STEP FOR YOU
Take five minutes—right now—and update your page categories.
It’s the single fastest way to stop bans immediately.
If you want, I can audit your page setup for free. Just say, “Audit my page,” and I’ll walk you through it.
Let’s make sure Facebook works for your business—not against it.

Joe
Hello, I came across you blog here because I have a firearm business and constantly get dinged by facebook. I’m trying to follow you instructions on setting up the category’s for my business and facebook doesn’t even show Gun Store or FFL Dealer or anything like that as a selectable category. Is there something I have to do to make it where I can select those. Closest thing It even has to guns is a shooting range.
